FAQ

A few practical questions, answered.

Coverage, timing, privacy, and how the scan separates your real listings from suspicious ones.

Is BrandSweep actually free?

Yes. There is no account, payment detail, or trial required. BrandSweep returns a preview of the potential counterfeit listings and lookalike domains it can verify in one scan. It is a point-in-time assessment, not continuous monitoring.

How long does a scan take?

Most scans take 60 to 120 seconds. BrandSweep runs live marketplace searches, checks domain variations for registration, and captures screenshots of candidate sites. Findings appear as they are confirmed, so you can start reviewing results before the scan finishes.

What does the scan cover?

The scan searches wholesale marketplaces, social and print-on-demand platforms, consumer resale sites, independent storefronts, and domain variations around your name. It filters your own domains, known legitimate retailers, and identified authorized sellers before showing results.

How does it tell my real listings apart from counterfeits?

BrandSweep reads the official domains on your website and excludes them. It also filters more than 400 known legitimate retailers and removes listings that identify an authorized seller. The remaining results are intended to be a focused starting point for review.

What do the risk tiers mean?

Critical covers wholesale and high-counterfeit marketplaces, where fakes may be manufactured rather than resold. High covers unrecognized third-party storefronts, often using your product photos. Medium covers social commerce and print-on-demand. Low covers consumer resale, which is more often genuine secondhand stock.

What is typosquatting, and why does it matter?

A typosquat is a domain that closely resembles yours: a dropped letter, swapped characters, or different extension. It can capture visitors who mistype your address. Typosquats may be used for counterfeit storefronts, phishing, or email spoofing.

The scan found nothing. Does that mean my brand is clean?

Not necessarily. This is a short, point-in-time scan built around a selection of your product images. Newer brands, fewer distinct images, or generic-looking packaging can limit what one pass finds. A clean preview does not rule out issues elsewhere.

Can you get counterfeit listings and fake domains taken down?

Yes. Podqi provides continuous monitoring and handles takedowns with marketplaces, registrars, and hosting providers. BrandSweep gives you an initial assessment of potential counterfeits and lookalike domains; continuous monitoring looks for new issues over time.

Do I need a registered trademark to run a scan?

No. The scan uses your brand name, website, and product photography. A trademark registration matters later, during enforcement: most marketplaces and registrars require a trademark number before acting on a takedown notice.

Is a BrandSweep report a legal assessment?

No. BrandSweep flags listings and domains that may be using your brand, but it does not determine infringement. Whether an issue is actionable depends on your registrations, jurisdiction, and the specific use. Treat the report as a starting point for counsel or your brand protection team.

Who can see my scan results?

Anyone with the report link can view it. Reports use a shareable URL and expire after 14 days. They contain public marketplace listings and public domain registration data, not private information about you.

What kinds of brands is this built for?

BrandSweep is built for consumer brands with physical products and distinctive photography, including beauty, apparel, accessories, supplements, and home goods. Image matching works best with strong, original product imagery. Services and software are not a fit.
